Meet the Waynesville Tigers
Season Coverage:
Nixa.
In a game that was twice
postponed due to lightning, the Tiger were able to secure
a 4-2 win over the Nixa Lady Eagles. The Eagles
struck first on a corner kick aided by a strong wind in
opening minutes of the game. The Tigers pounced back
to tie the game after a 50 minute postponement on a goal
by Lauren Kelly off a corner kick by Natasha Lord.
The Tigers shortly thereafter turned in the second goal on
a PK by Katie Pritchard due to a Nixa handball in their
box. The Eagles answered the Waynesville goal after
the second weather delay. The Waynesville game
winner came midway through the second period on a
goal by Katie Pritchard and a Lauren Kelly assist.
The final score was secured off a shot by Erica Combs and
a Natasha Lord assist.
Springfield Catholic.
The Lady Tigers pulled
out a victory over the state’s No. 5-ranked Class 1 team
by a score of
3-1. The Tigers got the scoring going early on a PK by
Katie Pritchard.
The Irish evened the score before the half on a shot
in the Waynesville's box. The Lady Irish keep the
pressure on the Tigers with precise passing and solid
midfield play. The Tigers countered with a half
dozen defensive back and goalie saves. The tide of
the game changed in the latter part of the second period
when
Natasha Lord
got the winning goal on a long bomb from 35 yards out.
Lauren Kelly
put in the insurance goal shortly thereafter on a cross
from Natasha Lord. Special recognition goes to the
defensive unit of:
Jefferson City/Senior Night.
The Tigers lost a
hard fought battle to the Jays, 2-3. Waynesville
struck first on a break-away goal by
Natasha Lord.
The half ended with the Tigers on top 1-0. The Jays
evened the score early in the second period.
Katie Pritchard
put the Tigers on top on a solo effort shortly thereafter.
The Jays using most of their 20 plus roster were able to
keep fresh legs in the game and got the go ahead goal late
in the second period. The Tigers out shot the Jays
11-7 but missed on three good scoring opportunities in the
Jays' box.
Waynesville
honored its seniors before the start of the game for their
contributions to the Lady Tiger Soccer Team:
Parkview.
The Tigers won
5-0 and
chalked up their 13th
shutout.
The team got the game winner in the eighth minute when
Katie Pritchard
#10 beat two defenders and placed the shot in the far
post net. The scoring continue in the second period
when the Tigers scored 4 additional goals on the following
combinations:
West
Plains.
The Lady Tiger Varsity
tallied their 12th shutout of the season by defeating the
Zizzers
4-0.
Natasha Lord
#19
got the scoring going midway through the first period on
shot just inside the West Plains box after missing on
several shots early in the period. The second score
was the results of a cross from Katie Pritchard
#10
and the goal by Erica Combs
#5. The
third goal came early in the second half by Katie Prichard
who drove the length of the field and finished the play.
The final score came from a rocket shot from Natasha Lord
outside the box to close out the game.
The
Junior
Varsity won 5-0 on another outstanding
defensive effort and improved their record to 8-7-1.
Scoring included:
- Casey Edie assisted by Kirsten
Lord
- Abby Clabaugh unassisted
- Destiny Bio assisted by Kim
Bigelow
- Bigelow assisted by Bio
- Tiffany Robertson unassisted
Kickapoo
JV Tournament.
In their first game the Tiger
JV played two scoreless halves against Neosho but lost in
penalty shots, 2-3. It was an exciting finish to a
good defensive effort. This was the first shoot-out for
most of the JV players. In the afternoon game
Kristen Hesteness
#8
scored with about 19 minutes left in the game to beat
Glendale 1-0. Kim Bigelow
#23
chalked up her fifth assist of the season setting a new JV
record. Tiffany
Robertson claimed shutouts in goal during both games.
Glendale.
Waynesville lost a
closely fought
game against Glendale 1-2 (OT) in the closing minutes of
the first overtime period. Glendale struck first at
the 20 minute mark on a shot just outside the Waynesville
box. Waynesville equaled the score on a
break-away by Erica Combs who pass around the Glendale
keeper to Lauren Kelly who finish the play. The
first period ended 1-1. The second half was another
defensive battle however, each side had opportunities to
pull ahead. Goalie
Crystal Hutchinson
made two picture perfect saves to keep the score even.
The regulation time ended with Glendale getting 10 shots
on goal to Waynesville's 7. The OT period began
similar to the second period with each team trying to gain
ball possession. Again each team had opportunities
to score but Glendale was able to capitalized on a
Waynesville defensive mistake and put a high shot over the
keeper's outstretch arms in the last two minutes of OT.
A great game and the rematch will be worth the price of
admission.
Joplin.
Waynesville defeated Joplin 2-0 in a
rain-shorten
game. The scoring got started when Natasha Lord
#19 cross the
ball to Katie Pritchard
#10 who
headed the ball to her feet and volleyed the ball into the
Joplin net. The first half ended 1-0. Lightning threatened
the game several times and the start of the second half.
Once the period began the Tigers were able to control
possession and get the ball to Mallory Omundson
#4 who
dribbled it down the middle of the field to take a shot
that bounced off the goalie who left it for Mallory to
make the easy goal. The game was called at the 50 minute
mark due to
severe weather.
Zizzer Tournament Champions.
The Tigers got off to a good 1st round
game by defeating the Valley View Lady Blazers
of Jonesboro, Arkansas by a score of 7-0. In the second
round the Tigers were matched up with a
very physical Sikeston Lady Bulldog team. After
a grueling 80 minutes the Tigers were able to sink 2 goals
by Lauren
Kelly,
#16
and hold the bulldogs scoreless for a 2-0 win. This
game marked the 10th shutout of the season for the Lady
Tigers.
The final game
will go down as one of the wildest finishes in Tiger
history and looked like a script from a Hollywood sports
movie. The Tigers met the
Notre Dame Rebels from St Louis in the Championship
Game. Using a strong wind advantage in in the first
half, the Rebels scored first. The Tigers answered
this score on a penalty kick by Katie Pritchard,
#10. The Tigers were showing their tired legs
from the earlier games and were consistently pressured by
the Rebels who used a precision passing game to set up
multiple scoring opportunities. The Tigers weathered
a barrage of shots and before the half ended found
themselves down 4-1.
Coach Josh Scott
regrouped the shell-shocked Tigers during the break and
told the team that their pride and reputation was on the
line.
Using the wind
advantage in the second half the Lady Tigers began the
slow climb to get out of the hole they had dug. The Tiger
second goal came from a Katie Pritchard breakaway midway
through the second period. Five minutes later the
Tigers struck "goal" again from a line drive shot
from Natasha Lord,
#19 from the Notre Dame forty. As the game clock
began to wind down the Tigers were able to pull off two of
the most remarkable shots. Orielle Thomas,
#11, a Tiger
Defensive back, move forward of the midfield line and took
a shot that hit hard in front of the Notre Dame Defense
and bounce high into the air over the goalie and into the
net, equaling the score at 4-4. With momentum shifting
and time running out the Tigers were able to maintain ball
possession and were awarded a direct kick from a Rebel
foul. Natasha Lord took a rocket blast just passed
the midfield line that sailed over the goalie, into the
back of the net, and into
Lady Tiger
Soccer Lore. Final score
5-4, you
should have been
there! Zizzer
Classic All Tournament Team selections were:
- Lauren Kelly
- Natasha Lord
- Katie Pritchard
- Orielle Thomas
Lebanon.
The Lady Tigers continue to climb the Ozark
Conference ladder by defeating the Lebanon Lady Jackets by
a score of 2-0. This was a hard fought game by both
sides matching speed against speed and stingy defensives
against potent offenses. The first half ended
scoreless and sent the squads into the break trying to
adjust to the other team's strategy. The Lady Tigers
came out of the half with a determination to be physical
and win more 50/50 balls. The first goal occurred in
the 25th minute when Mallory Omundson
#4 passed
a ball to Katie Pritchard
#10
moving to the left side of the box area. Katie put some
major MOJO on the ball and “Bent it like Beckum” into the
upper right corner of the goal. The final goal came
off a Lebanon handball just outside their box area.
Katie took the direct kick after a set play and buried the
rocket into the back of the Lebanon net. Crystal
Hutchinson
#01
recorded her 8th shutout and made two
spectacular saves to seal the victory.
Rolla.
The Waynesville Lady Tigers made a significant
stride toward showing the Ozark Conference it will be a
strong contender this season by shutting out the Rolla
Lady Bulldogs,
3-0. This
is the first time the Lady Tigers have defeated the
Bulldogs and leave some doubt to the recently
released region poll. The scoring got started in the
first half on a perfect
cross by
Natasha Lord #19 from the right side into the far post
area where Shanna Neeley #7 buried
the winning goal into the back of the net .
The first half ended 1-0 and with the Tigers having their
first lead in the series history. The second half
began with the teams battling it out for ball possession
but eventually found the Tigers gaining the upper hand and
getting their second goal off a Tash Lord corner kick and
a Katie Pritchard #10 header.
The final goal occur when Erica Combs #5 made a perfect
pass
to Stephanie Konvalin
#12 who
place a hard shot into the net.
